STIMULATING ENVIRONMENT

In my lesson with 9F, which my HoD wrote up an observation for, I established a safe environment for pupils by speaking to three pupils being disruptive in the queue outside. These Year 9 pupils were about to enter the classroom to carry out an assessment. Each pupil has the right to carry out this assessment in a calm and quiet environment. It is a demonstration of all the knowledge they have achieved over the previous autumn term. For this reason, I chose to give verbal warnings to three pupils stood outside the classroom. They kept talking even after I'd asked for quiet. My observer noted: "warnings given, students spoken to outside - good!". I felt that without this intervention, it would be difficult to establish a safe and stimulating environment for pupils. Each pupil needs to respect the other, so that the lesson can get on without delay and these pupils could carry out their assessment in productive conditions.
